Surgical Nutrition

The surgical nutrition team provides advanced treatment for complex gastrointestinal (GI) conditions including intestinal failure from short bowel syndrome, enterocutaneous fistula, gastroparesis, and functional intestinal motility disorders. 

Our services include comprehensive nutritional assessment, dietary counseling, enteral access and enteral formula management, parenteral access, and customized management of parenteral nutrition. 

We also provide nutritional “prehabilitation” for malnourished patients undergoing elective surgical procedures.

Daniel Dante Yeh MD, MHPE, FACS, FCCM, FASPEN, CNSC

Dante Yeh

Dr. Yeh is a Professor of Surgery at University of Colorado School of Medicine and an actively practicing acute care surgeon at Denver Health Medical Center.

Dr. Yeh is the founder and leader of the Surgical Nutrition service at Denver Health and maintains a busy clinical practice managing patients with short bowel syndrome, enterocutaneous fistulas, and intestinal failure. He is the chair of the Item Writing Committee of the Certification Examination for Nutrition Support Clinicians (CNSC) Exam, and the chair of the Critical Care Section of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN).

Dr. Yeh has authored 20 book chapters and over 150 peer-reviewed journal publications, including several on the topic of enterocutaneous fistula management, indirect calorimetry, and critical care nutrition. He has given multiple invited lectures at ASPEN Clinical Nutrition Week, American College of Surgeons, and international nutrition conferences.

Amelia Bunch is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.

She earned her medical education from the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs in 2023 and holds certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Lisa Wingrove RDN, Surgical Nutrition Dietitian

Lisa Wingrove

Lisa Wingrove RDN is the outpatient Surgical Nutrition Dietitian for the Department of Surgery at Denver Health. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado (BS Dietetics) with experience as a Certified Specialist Oncology Nutrition (CSO) and program development for prehabilitation, food as medicine and implementational science.

Lisa is published in the multi-disciplinary care of esophageal cancer patients, and the impact of prehabilitation on this patient population. She specializes in helping patients deal with diet adaptation in complex GI issues, nutrition optimization for surgery, and surgical oncology nutrition.

For Lisa, nutrition is more than food. It is culture, heritage, family, celebration, health, nourishment, love, and comfort. Her hobbies include writing, cooking, and sharing meals at her table.
