Denver Health reminds families of importance of staying on schedule with vaccines

With back-to-school vaccines needed and U.S. measles cases at a 35-year high, Denver Health reminds families to keep vaccines on schedule as families and students prepare to head back to school.

Vaccines remain one of the most effective ways to protect children and communities from serious illness and help prevent the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.

“The best time to protect a child against a vaccine-preventable illness is before they get exposed,” said Robert Belknap, MD, chair of the Public Health Institute at Denver Health. “Following the vaccination schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) protects children from getting sick and helps reduce the spread of diseases throughout the community. Staying on schedule is one of the most effective steps parents and caregivers can take to protect their children’s health.”

Denver Health remains committed to sharing accurate, evidence-based guidance on vaccine safety, which includes the recommended immunization schedule provided by the AAP.
